Breakthrough Robotics

Filed in archive Technology by on January 10, 2006

Smartmobs found the right headline: Breakthrough Robotics. It's the fouth or fifth time I read this but still cannot believe it.
Stanley is a robot and drives a car.

Or with the words of Justin Rattner, Intel's R&D director: "Deep Blue was just processing power. It didn't think. Stanley thinks. We've moved away from rule-based thinking in artificial intelligence. The new paradigm is based on probabilities. It's based on statistical analysis of patterns. It is a better reflection of how our minds work..."

Congratulations to Stanford and Volkswagen!

But there is still a road to go: "...Now we need to teach them how to drive in traffic."
Gary Bradski, Intel Corporation as quoted in the October 17, 2005 issue of the EE Times.
