Virtual jail
A virtual jail is cheaper then a real one. In fact it's 5, 10 or 15US$ a day. Thats the cost of a bracelet-like gadget. With that gadget the police is able to control the whereabouts of drunken driver via GPS.

The new GPS device would act like a "probation officerlinks in the pocket of the offender" to deter repeat felon offenders, reduce the number of accidents and ensure people get the treatment they need, DeGasperin said. Results will be available in six months, after which the program could be expanded.

Up to 30,000 people are injured or killed each year on California's highways as a result of drunken drivers - thats a huge number. But what about the privacy? The job is to keep them away from driving a car not to control every step of them.
