Natural High-Tech Textile
Filed in archive High-Tech Textiles on April 27, 2006
Talking about high-tech textiles one would'nt think about bamboo, would you? Think different. Bamboo has some interesting features.
Bamboo features natural antibacterial properties that prevent shirts from retaining odor and yellowing in their pits. Also, it wicks moisture more effectively and is more breathable than cotton. To top it off, it has a light, silk-like, buttery feel that some people liken to cashmere.
"It has the strength, feel, and sheer softness that you can't get from any other material," says Carlson. "And on top of that, it has the environmental story."
One of the fastest growing plants on earth, bamboo also requires no irrigation or synthetic chemicals, so it's considered a remarkably renewable and green material.
Treehugger has another beautiful example for the use of bamboo.
