Motivation
What are the motivators to buy gadgets? Functionality? Feature? Comfort? Not really. Some of you may know that I run an ad company.Thats why markets and marketing is part of my job. What I learned is that the market drift between cheep and premium is going on and growing. This way the article in the Kansas City Star is enlightening. Within the story about cool garmin products they list three reasons from people why to buy this stuff.

Competition - "There's always a little bit of competition involved," Wickstrom said. "Somebody gets a new device, and then someone else wants to get something better."

Motivation - Gregory said she wouldn't be running next weekend if a friend hadn't let her borrow a Forerunner early on. ...
"First and foremost, it's a motivational tool for me," Williams said. "I look at the stats to see how I'm improving. Can I run faster at a lower heart rate than I used to?"

Fun - The best of the gear warns us when we're working too hard, provides motivation and makes exercise a little more fun.

Competition, Motivation and Fun are perfect emotional selling points for the premium middle class of todays "first world" countries.
