You want to know where your food is from and what's in it? Look at BaToo, a new application that integrates technologies from camera mobiles, GPRS, mobile networks and databases to deliver information about products using their barcode. One use is for people with an allergy to check within seconds if the food is ok for them. BaToo is developed at the ETH Zurich.
BaToo is a freely available 1D barcode recognition toolkit that is intended to facilitate the creation of novel applications and services based on the recognition of EAN13 codes using camera equipted mobile phones.

This may be faster with RFID in the near future. And then you'll also know on which route your food came to you.
