Convergence of objects

Filed in archive Cool by on December 18, 2005

Someday your moneylinks will talk to you... The media convergence is well-known. For example TV and computer grow together. The same happens to our money. The use of electronic money like credit cards or paypal has increased the last 10 years. But now the money itself becomes electronic.

Due to a number of money transport robberies in recent years, the Swedish national bank is considering adding RFID tags to their banknotes.

Several types of tags are under consideration: a passive id-tag for tracking stolen banknotes would form a first step; later they are considering tags that are de-activated during transport and storage and only activated once the banknotes are paid out from a cashpoint.
