You can now download the C-Lab report about wearable computing in the maintenance sector (16pages, german).
C-Lab is the Cooperative Computing & Cooperation Laboratory - works in the area of research and development and safeguards its transfer into the market. It was founded in 1985 by Nixdorf Computer AG (now Siemens Business Services GmbH & Co OHG) and the University of Paderborn.
The report is mostly about maintenance and gesture recognition. One example is the airbus project in toulouse - where the largest passenger airliner on earth is build.
Special maintenance working conditions highlited are:
- worker mobility
- continuous communication and information needs
- data needed direct at the working place
- 20-50% time spend for information retrieval
- 85% hands free operations
- uncomfortable posture and background noise
This is where new technology is able to deliver better solutions.
