The Latest Technology “Wearable Electronics”
Technology is changing practically every day, and each new day seems to bring a new technological device. The latest thing in the technological world? Wearable electronics. The days of Dick Tracy's "wrist watch radio" are actually here.
This is more than portable music players. That piece of designer jewelry you see someone wearing just might be a cell phone disguised as a bracelet. You actually have to take the bracelet off to use the phone, but you've got to admit, it's still pretty cool.
And that shirt with a picture of a guitar on it? That might be a wearable air guitar. It's true. A wearable air guitar shirt has sensors that read the motions that you make when playing air guitar. The sensors transmit these motions to a wireless computer. The computer then changes the signals into guitar riffs, and voila, you're "playing" air guitar on your shirt! At least, that's the idea behind it.
Types of wearable electronics include keypads and controllers that are built right into jackets, gloves, and other types of soft apparel. These gadgets allow wearers to control cell phones, portable music players, and other things from the article of clothing to which the electronic device is attached.
There is also something known as the "tech" shirt. This is an athletic shirt that has a band sewn into it. Inside the band are electronic monitors that record your respirations, heart rate, body temperature, and speed when you're walking or running, then transmit the data to a special wrist watch. Runners are especially fond of this particular article of clothing.
Special instructions for cleaning and care come with the clothes so you don't mess up the electronics when you wash them. So, as technology continues to expand, you should look for more types of wearable electronics.
