Intelligent Textiles That Could Show Time

The heavy rain this weekend ensured that I was deprived of my round of golf. Sitting at home, I was indulging in my favorite hobby – looking for gifts for my family members. Eventually I decided to buy a Breitling watch at watchsea24 for my dad. Browsing the net a little more, my eyes suddenly came across an article on intelligent textiles. Curiosity about something I knew nothing about caused me to start researching about them.
Intelligent textiles are the next generation of fibres, fabrics and articles produced from them. Best described as textile that think for themselves, intelligent textiles provide ample evidence of the potential and enormous wealth of opportunities to be realized in the textile industry, not only by the fashion and clothing sector, but also the technical textiles sector. Many intelligent textiles already feature in advanced types of clothing, principally for protection and safety and for added fashion or convenience.

Intelligent textiles have a lot of appeal and can become real life savers. For example, researchers have been able to produce cotton fibers capable of detecting blood and of signaling its presence electrically. For both soldiers and doctors clothing that indicate such things as loss of blood or adapt to changing conditions could provide protection from microbes, chemicals and radiation. Clothes that glow, do not wrinkle or overcome body odor are no longer a dream or science fiction. Materials can already do some of these things, but they are too bulky, rigid or complicated for practical use. The goal is to manufacture a material that can not only be easily woven but is also highly durable and, capable of electrical conductivity.

I am waiting anxiously for the day when manufacturers will be able to produce fabric incorporated with a watch. Till then my dad will have to wear the Breitling around his wrist.
